CURRENT POSITIONS

1. Characterisation Engineer / Material Scientist

EpiGaN manufactures advanced semiconductor wafers for next-generation RF and Power electronics. After growth of III-Nitrides material by chemical processes, in-depth epiwafer characterization is required both for product qualification and for next-generation product development. Material characterization is preferably non-destructive and includes in particular, High resolution X-Ray measurements, contact-less electrical characterization, photoluminescence and surface defect analysis. EpiGaN is looking for a motivated and experienced engineer/physicist, with a strong background in semiconductor material analysis, to be responsible for the measurement tools, data analysis and measurements procedures. The candidate should be eager to work in a clean-room environment, installing new measurement tools and developing adequate new characterization methodologies.
  
Job description
You will be responsible for:

  • Definition, with the support of the operating team, of standard measurement strategies on epiwafer material for product qualification purpose
  • Set-up measurement routines, statistical analysis of the results and database integration
  • Development of more detailed measurements and related data analysis on advanced structures for R&D purpose
  • Hardware support for characterization tools (HR-XD, Microscopy analysis, photoluminescence, contact-less electrical tools, surface defect analysis…)
  • Installation and start-up of  new characterization tools and develop related tool operation/measurement procedures
  • Analysis, using appropriate software, of the measurement data from the different tools
  • Follow-up and update of measurement procedures, in collaboration with the quality manager
  • Continuously update and improve measurement methodologies to enable production ramp-up, increase yield and enlarge product portfolio
  • You will be reporting directly to the COO. 

 
Your Profile:

  • Master’s or PhD engineering degree in physics, chemistry, material science or electrical engineering (electronics)
  • More than 5 years working experience in the semiconductor industry
  • A solid background in general semiconductor technology
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor characterization is mandatory
  • Background in material characterization techniques (X-Ray, contact-less electrical, microscopy, AFM, PL, SIMS, TEM…)
  • Project management experience
  • Good communication skills
  • Proven ability to work independently, while maintaining open communication
  • A systematic attitude, an open mind and team player
  • A good working knowledge of the English language

2. Process Operator

EpiGaN is a start-up active in the semiconductor industry, which focus on delivering material for next-generation RF and power electronics components. Very thin semiconductor layers (a few microns) are deposited by a chemical process onto Silicium substrates. These epitaxial layers form the starting point of the new electronic components.
  
Job description
As process operator, you work in our production line and are responsible for the implementation of one or more production and/or analysis steps. Process and characterization equipment are computer-controlled, though a few manual steps are still required at the beginning and at the end of the process. Accuracy and quality are key in this high-tech environment.
You are also involved in the proper functioning of the production line, you control different parameters and take appropriate actions whenever deviations may occur (tool maintenance, change of gas bottles etc.). You work in a clean room environment and wear suitable clean-room clothes. You may also be working with chemical products. You strictly follow the security and environmental regulations and if necessary, you wear adequate protective clothes.
During the training, you work exclusively during the day, but after the training is completed, a shift system will be started gradually, first early and late and then continuously.

Key Requirements:  
Correct understanding of instructions and schemas
•           Strictly follow safety procedures and environmental regulations
•           Follow procedures correctly
Checking and distributing raw materials:
•           Correct reading of the chemical description: selection of appropriate chemicals accordingly
•           Connect gas bottles correctly and follow chemical procedures
•           Correct selection of silicium substrates
Tools to be correctly started, stopped and maintained
•           Know the different parts of the tools: terminology and operation
•           Change, clean and maintain some parts of the production tools
•           Define process parameters correctly for different production process
•           Properly report the operations
•           Use computers and keyboards in production environment
Support in small technical problem solving

Key skills:
Working safely: avoiding dangerous situations and risks, both for themselves and for other employees
Being able to work independently: you can organize your work independently according to the given priorities
“Handy” at work: during the process, several manual steps require the handling of fragile semiconductor material
Work accurately: carefully complete tasks and strictly comply with agreements, rules and procedures
Quality minded: all products undergo a quality process control after production, inspecting in particular for defects and product specification deviations. Each step in the process can introduce product deviation if not performed correctly.

Required Education:
Preferably a professional bachelor's degree and at least a third-level diploma in secondary education and
Experience of working in a clean-room environment, preferably in semiconductor technology is mandatory.
English fluency and understanding is a must, given the international character of EpiGaN

3. R&D Project Engineer

EpiGaN is involved in multi-partners R&D projects to develop next-generation of GaN material for electronics, in particular for next-generation 5G telecom standards. Besides epitaxial growth, material characterization and analysis of device performance are a key intrinsic part of these R&D projects. The R&D projects further include the transistor fabrication and related measurements with our partners. EpiGaN is looking for a motivated and experienced project engineer, with a strong background in semiconductor growth and/or semiconductor material analysis, and a good experience in project management, to successfully contribute to these R&D activities critical for EpiGaN growth.

Job description
You will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the development of next-generation GaN HEMT structures according to the projects’ specifications
  • Interacting with external project partners or characterization subcontractors to coordinate internal and external characterization efforts
  • Analysing the experimental data in view of the project objectives
  • Managing EpiGaN R&D contributions in public-funded projects
  • Coordinating  project works and multiple-partners interaction in these projects
  • Summarising and presenting the obtained results  (reports/presentations/meetings…)
  • Submitting new project proposals aligned with the company R&D strategy
  • Contributing to the material characterization on in-house measurement set-ups
  • Developping appropriate material or electrical characterization set-ups and methodologies to support MOCVD developments; set-up measurement routines and perform statistical analysis
  • Performing basic device electrical characterization, analysing results and feedback to epitaxy

You will be reporting to the CTO.

Your Profile:

  • Master’s  or PhD engineering degree in physics, chemistry, material science or electrical engineering (electronics)
  • More than 5 years working experience in the semiconductor industry
  • A solid background in GaN technology for electronics and  in general semiconductor technology
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor processing is mandatory
  • Background in either material growth (MOCVD), material characterization techniques (X-Ray, PL, SIMS, TEM…) or device processing and electrical measurement (buffer and  transistor characterisation, I-V, C-V, pulsed measurements...) required
  • Willing to occasionally work at multiple sites within Belgium and to travel for project meetings within Europe.

  • Proven ability to work independently, while maintaining open communication

4. GaN EPITAXY Engineer

You will be conducting R&D in GaN epitaxy for power electronics along the EpiGaN roadmap. You propose and investigate creative solutions and convert those into company IP. You support epitaxy developments by helping their implementation in production.

Profile: 

  • A PhD degree in semiconductor physics or engineering with a focus on material science
  • At least 5 years experience in MOCVD growth of III-nitrides is a must
  • Being familiar with epitaxial growth of III-V on Si is an advantage
  • Strong knowledge in material characterisation techniques and in device physics
  • A solid background in general semiconductor processing technology
  • Good knowledge of the state of the art in the domain
  • Good communication skills, as well as documentation and reporting skills
  • A scientific mindset, creativity, an open mind, team spirit
  • A good working knowledge of the English language
